So What Wednesday!

This week I am saying so what if....

I haven't been in anything other than yoga pants and gym clothes except for a couple times in the past 6 weeks. I have a newborn and my clothes don't fit yet.

I am dreading going back to work in 5 1/2 weeks. I am enjoying my maternity leave sooo much. That is what I am supposed to be doing!

I get about 4 hours of sleep a night. I will survive, right?

I am so excited to see what actually happens on the Bachelorette. I know the season was kind of boring, but I still want to know.

Swim Lessons

As a parent there are many things that are very important I prepare my children for. For me, one of those things is the water. I am not the best swimmer, I mean I can swim, but I can not jump in without holding my nose or dive or do flips in the water and all of that fun stuff. My husband on the other hand, without ever even being taught, is a fish! It is just his personality to be daring and try everything and anything, so he was fine with learning later in life and being great at it. So for me, it is very important that my children learn how to swim and how to swim well! Not only for the survival part and for the piece of mind, but also for socialization and confidence. I want them to be confident in and around water and I want us as parents to be confident in them around and in the water.

Last year Gianna started parent and child swimming lessons when she was about 8 months old. She was the youngest one in the class and did wonderful. She loved the water. Parent and child lessons aren't anything too crazy, they are just getting the kids used to the water, teaching them to kick, helping them climb out, dunking them a little bit and putting them on their backs. Then, all winter passed and we hadn't been back in the water. In May we signed up again. This time she was a little older, but still one of the younger children in the class. She wasn't that fond of getting dunked or having her ears in the water, but she did wonderful- again! Classes are 6 weeks on the weekend, so when the session ended we immediately signed her up to continue, why not, right?! So 2 weeks ago when she began her 2nd session, the teacher knew she had been already and was comfortable with her so she let her do a little more advanced skills. She let her swim under water. She pushed her under and she swam and kicked under water towards her daddy. About 5 seconds later she popped up screaming. It felt like eternity and I almost jumped in to rescue her, but when she popped her head out I was screaming Yeah!  That's my girl!! I was one proud momma!!!

My husband and I have been on the fence about the infant survival swim lessons ever since last summer. One they are a lot of money, about $700. Two, they are a big commitment, daily for 6 weeks. Three, they are pretty brutal on the kids. The graduation for the course is literally throwing the kid in fully clothed and having them come up, float on their backs to the side of the pool and climb out. AMAZING!!! Especially considering they teach this course to such young children and totally worth every penny, but I just don't think I can do it. I mean my husband is all for it, but I am still on the fence. I still have faith we can teach her to be a great swimmer with these traditional lessons and I am sure we can, but definitely not as quickly as this course. My husband was so gung ho, I actually reached out to sign her up, but there was a LONG waiting list (relief) so for now we will continue with the traditional lessons and try to bring her even during the winter months so she stays comfortable with the water.

Celebrate!

I am celebrating my 2 beautiful healthy children today...and everyday of course!

Trendy Tot Tuesday

Today I am linking up to show off my tot! Her style is super comfortable & fun and she always likes to wear a bow. Here she is today heading off to the park in her new lady bug outfit courtesy of her Grandma!

If I could turn back time...

This week I am linking up again with Becky to talk about what I would do if I could turn back time. I am not one of those people who has no regrets. I mean yes, I believe everything has brought me to were I am today, which I would not change for the world, but if I could turn back time, I would definitely do a few things differently.

I would start with my childhood. I would eat healthier and be more active. I was a shy kid with pretty low self esteem who was a little chubbet and in high school when my parents got divorced it got out of control and my self esteem was at an all time low. As soon as I got moving the weight began to shed and today I am pretty active, but still do not have the best eating habits. I am trying to do better for my kids, but have a ways to go on my eating habits. As an adult and mother, I know these things need to be instilled in a child, because this gives them the foundation to continue a healthy lifestyle so my kids being active and enjoying treats in moderation is very important to me.

Secondly, I would not waste time crying and thinking life was over with my high school boyfriend. I knew from the beginning he was bad news and why as a teenager I thought we were in love and I could "change" him I have no idea. It was ok I finally- years later- grew up and gained my confidence and said goodbye to a bad situation, but I definitely wasted some good years on that whole situation. I would love my daughter (and son) to now that the person you are by 25 is sooo much different than who you are at 16 or 18 to not cry and think life is over when you have a break up or to move too fast with a boyfriend/girlfriend because there life is just beginning and more than likely this is not the person they are destined to be with, it is just a lesson for them to go through so they can ultimately end up with the "right person".

Now, let's talk college. I would definitely recommend going away to college, doing a semester over seas and taking out as little student loans as possible. I would tell my kids to have fun, but not too much fun, because what they get out of college is going to take them through life and to make the big bucks (if that is what they want of course) the world is a very very competitive place.

Oh man, if I could turn back time I would have definitely NOT have tried to be too independent and buy that house when I was 22. This is by far my biggest mistake! Rent as long as you can, when you are young things can change so fast, you can get a great job opportunity, want to move near a friend, meet a guy and fall in love. You just never know so do not try to be too independent too early. Save your money and rent. Enjoy not being tied down!

If I could turn back time, these are the major things I would do differently. What about you?

Throwback Thursday: The first time he said "I Love You"

We were at a night club, dressed as Zorro and his "SeƱorita" for Halloween.

Yes, we were tipsy.

We hadn't been dating that long, but we had been spending lots of time together.

He saw me dancing with another guy, nothing like that, just dancing and got very jealous.

He said I Love You!!! AWWWW!!!

Great night!

Then...he took it back the next day....OH YES HE DID!!

He was scared, was he coming on too strong? Maybe, but I knew he meant it. A week later he realized what happened and said it for real in a more romantic way!

1st Month Baby Must Haves

Miles recently turned 1 month old and so I wanted to share a few of the items we couldn't have survived without during that first month.

1. Aden + Anais swaddle blankets- they come in fun prints are super soft, light weight and big to swaddle them nice and snug

2. Snap bibs that don't leak onto their clothes. Does anyone else hate the velcrow ones that stick to clothes & socks when washed? So frustrating!

3. Dr. Brown's Drying Rack- you don't necessarily need this one, this is just the one we use and love because you can store lots of bottles

4. Dr. Brown's bottles- these are the ones we used with both Gianna and now Miles

5. Boppy Pillow- we mainly use this to let Miles nap on the bed with us at night between his 8 and 11 feeding while we watch TV but it will continue to have more uses like chest time, etc.

6. Fisher Price Rocking Sleeper- this is what he sleeps in right next to our bed at night and it is super portable

7. Little Tummy's- both of our kids have had horrible gas and had to be on sensitive formula.

8. Philips pacis- so Gianna loved these in the first few months and Miles seems to as well. She preferred MAM later down the road, or maybe mommy did, but these are great for newborns.

9. Zip up sleepers- I mean really babies don't need any real clothes until the are like a year old, just sleepers and onesies mainly and the zip ones are the best!

10. Aveeno baby lotion for their dry, sensitive skin- the best!

What are your must haves?

So What Wednesday

Today I am joining in on so what Wednesday.

- So what if I am more interested in seeing the "Kimye" baby then the new royal baby

- So what if I want to re-do our living room when our couch is only less than 2 years old- it was a bad purchase, time for a change

- So what if during the Nordstrom Semi-Annual sale I have an itch to shop for shoes and handbags, I can't fit into my regular pant size yet, so that is out of the question

- So what if I am itching to see what happens on the Bachelorette

- So what if I have gift cards from 2 christmas's ago and have been to those stores multiple times, I forget ok

-So what if I have decided to dye my hair dark...again! I always go back and forth, but do think I like it better my natural dark brown shade

What are you saying so what to today?

Never Ever Ever Link up

I'm doing another link up with Shelley, Stephanie and Neely about what I would "Never Ever Ever" say or do.

- Never ever ever will I sky dive, nope not even for a million dollars, although I wish it wasn't true, I am a complete sissy!
- Never ever ever will I try unusual foods. Again, I wish I was more open minded (like my husband) but I will stick to chicken and turkey as my meats of choice, thanks!
- Never ever will I not worry about my children. I mean does it ever end, from the time they are learning to crawl to the time they are learning to drive and so on, I see many a bottles of wine in my future.
- Never ever ever will I give up on my family (husband and children)
- Never ever ever will I allow my kids to be rude to people for no reason
- I hope to Never ever ever go without a cleaning service again. They only come once a month right now, but gosh the way they clean those showers and dust...Amazing and worth every penny
- Never ever ever will I stop dreaming. Life is great, it is absolutely, positively amazing, but I will probably always dream of more. More for my family that is. Vacations, experiences, you name it! I will never ever ever allow them to take it for granted though- we will always try and give back no matter how much or little we have.

These are just a few of the things I will Never ever ever do. I am scared to say what I would never ever ever say, because sometimes things come out of this mouth that I greatly regret.

Getting to know Gianna

Lately I have been blogging a lot about our new baby boy, but I wanted to also brag a little bit about our beautiful little girl, Gianna. Since she came into our lives in October 2011, we have been the happiest people in this world. She has truly changed our lives in the most amazing way possible. We worked extremely hard to get her and couldn't have dreamed up a more perfect little girl.

Today she is almost 21 months old and an absolute little diva in the making. She LOVES to dance and we just signed her up for 2 yr old ballet which starts in September, very exciting! One time in church a couple months ago the band, which her Grandpa sings in, started playing and she got up and pulled daddy into the aisle with her to dance, then she took the offering basket and put it o her head. She is the cutest! She also loves her dogs, loves hats (hence the offering basket), loves all dairy- yogurt, milk, ice-cream, cheese, loves her new baby brother, loves to talk and is really doing wonderful at it, loves the outdoors, loves her daddy a ton, loves bath time and loves to sleep!

She has a very spunky, demanding, sweet personality and just started this new shy thing which is adorable. She is the type of little girl who makes a new friend on the playground and wants to hold their hand (adorable!). She pulls mommy and daddy to the fridge to tell us to "open" then tells us what she wants to eat. She loves on her baby brother and shares her toys even though he cannot yet play with them. She throws tantrums with the best of them and we sometimes refer to her as "Mariah", because her lungs are insane! She loves to read books with mommy before bed, but is VERY specific about which ones she wants to read. She stopped drinking from a bottle completely before her first birthday, she has had juice less than a handful of times, but has had cookies, cake and ice-cream on too many occasions to count (YUM!). She loves fruit, veggies not so much and is so so on meat.

She has the cutest brown, wavy hair and the prettiest big brown eyes and oh man, her daddy is Indian so she gets the greatest tans which all of her friends will one day be jealous of I know. Our little girl is so incredible I could talk about her forever, we feel so very blessed to have her in our lives, to hear her sweet giggles and see her beautiful smiles, to comfort her when she has a boo boo and to cuddle with her when she is tired. We thank God for her each and every day!

52 Weeks of Blogging with a Purpose::If I Could be Anything

This seems like it would be an easy topic, but it is very difficult for me. The first thing that ran through my head was career- what career would I pick if I could pick anything? Yikes, I don't know. Do I think I would have picked what I am doing? No, probably not, although it is a great job I am sure I can come up with something a little more fun then crunching numbers.

When I was little I wanted to be a ballerina, then a Star tap dancer on broadway, then a talk show host, then a lawyer which lasted through freshman year in college when I decided to go into Accounting/Finance and Business. Today, I would LOVE to say I am a successful entrepreneur, but nope, I am working in Corporate America which allows me to come home and see my family and reap the benefits of affordable health insurance, retirement plans, etc. This leads me into the real answer to this question. If I could be anything, it would be...a mom and a wife! No matter what career I would have chosen the biggest dream I have always had was to walk down the aisle to an amazing man and have a beautiful family! SO... while I do consider myself successful in my career and my husband too, of course I dream of having more, but ultimately, I have it all. A great husband and 2 beautiful, healthy children! I am exactly where I have always dreamed of being and that feels great! Anything that comes after this point is just icing on the cake.

The imbalance between Parenting & Grandparenting

As I was reading one of my favorite mommy blogs over at www.doublethefunblog.com I thought, you know what this would be a great topic for me to blog about as well, because this is DEFINITELY something that, like her, I have struggled with BIG TIME!

I am a full time working mommy who started my daughter Gianna, who is now 20 months, in daycare at 3 months old as I went back to work. We were and still are pro day care, but it wasn't working out great for us, but we stuck with it, because at the time it was our best option. I was constantly sick, she was constantly sick, the husband was constantly sick. Not a good situation, but I guess expected with starting day care. Daycare costs definitely vary by location, but we were paying so much that by the time we had 2 children it would be just as cost efficient for us to hire a nanny. My mom was a special ed teacher who was getting tired of driving 1.5 hours to work each way and she LOVES Gianna, so we decided to pull Gianna out of daycare and hire my mom as our full time nanny. She went into early retirement so between that and what we pay her she is breaking even and enjoying life more.

My mom and I are VERY different, VERY! This left me a little worried, but growing up my grandparents lived next door and were my absolute best friends, so for my daughter I knew it would be an amazing experience. My mom comes to my house everyday to take care of Gianna, because she is somewhat of a hoarder and I do not want Gianna around all of that, plus it is just easier, all of her stuff is here. Some of the things we have struggled with (some may sound silly, but it is what it is):

- Her washing the counter tops with the dish rag- this is OLD SCHOOL and sorry if you do this, but kind of gross! Please use a clorox wipe or some spray and a paper towel !

- Her leaving the toilet seat cover up, it must go down!. When I met my husband this was something I acquired as a habit and is now a family MUST!

- Cleaning up at the end of the day- it is much easier if you do it as you go, then things don't get left un-done.

- Her keeping my kids on the Schedule I set for them, sorry mom I am the parent!

- Feeding my kids the food I want and NOT feeding them the food I don't want. Yes, she can have treats, but she can't have chocolate for breakfast, lunch and dinner and sorry, no juice!

- Sunscreen- yes, even if she is going outside for just 15 minutes and it is "cloudy" she needs to wear sunscreen.

These are some of the struggles I have with my mom, who is also our full time nanny. These are only a few of them and trust me there are more, but I am learning to try and handle them in stride and just keep reminding or as I say, "sound like a broken record". We will get there eventually, maybe when they start college (laughing). In the mean time, when Gianna hugs and loves on her Grandma I know that we made the right decision. My mom (also known as Granny) got divorced from my dad when I was 17 and has since struggled with it and being "alone" and would spend every minute with us if we were ok with it, so I know this is also one of the greatest gifts I will ever be able to give her. Granny is definitely a lot happier - especially during naps when she gets to watch Dr. Oz. (laughing again)

In-law struggles for a later post...

Happy 1 Month Miles!

Dear our little man,

You are 1 month old today and each day more amazing then the next! You are such a sweet little guy and your big sister loves you so much! She tries sharing all her toys with you, brings you your noni (paci), your blankets and hats and loves giving you kisses. She says "hold" to hold you and "uh oh, crying" when you are upset.

You are developing bad reflux, like your sister, except yours makes you super congested and comes out of your nose. You also get terrible gas pains and mommy just feels so bad for you!

You are getting so big so fast. Tomorrow is your doctor appointment and I cannot wait to see your stats.

We love you to the moon and back!

Our journey to baby #2

I cannot believe our little dude will be 1 month old tomorrow. The husband and I worked really hard for both of our babies, and although it wasn't an easy journey for us, it was definitely an amazing journey each time. Below is the story of how we got to Miles. Enjoy!

It all started in July 2012 when the husband and I decided, "hey, let's go ahead and go for baby #2 while we are in the swing of things." Gianna was about 9 months old and we already knew we wanted them to be close together, so we made an appointment with our amazing Reproductive Doctor and immediately started protocol. Shots, shots and more shots! Then, on 8/3/1012 we transferred one of our beautiful, frozen, day 5 blasto cysts and waited... I am terrible with surprises, good or bad, so on about day 5 after transfer I start peeing on a stick just like I did with Gianna. At this point it is a little early, so nothing. Next day, nothing. Next day, OH MY GOODNESS, we are pregnant!!! Very exciting. I don't believe it and now have a bunch of sticks so I continue testing. A couple days later, the lines start getting lighter and I just know something is wrong. Then, I go back to Doc for my official blood test. I get the call at work that afternoon with our straight to the point Doctor (which I love), "Well, you are officially pregnant...but, it looks like you are in the process of an early miscarriage, so we need you to come back in 2 days to confirm." Then comes, devastation!! Yes, we know it happens all the time and we probably wouldn't have even known we were pregnant if we weren't trying so hard, but we had invested so much financially and so much physically and emotionally it was so terrible to know that one of our babies was an Angel now. We quickly picked up the pieces and decided to go for it right away again. Out loud I said last time, but inside I knew I would continue as long as it took.

On October 16th 2012 it was time again to transfer one of our beautiful frozen embryos and pray! This time I got a positive sooner and it kept getting darker! We were ecstatic, but cautious from our previous round. The pregnancy continued to progress and I was feeling great. With Gianna I felt terrible most of the days during my first trimester, so I just had a gut instinct this was a boy. Then, we were released from the specialist and off to our OB. Around Christmas time I started bleeding and of course freaking out. Off to the doc, after a long visit and a lot of tears, everything was ok I just needed to be on rest. I rested, it stopped, then started again, off to doc and so fourth. I guess this pregnancy was just a little different and I was reassured a lot of women bleed. Ok, fine. Then, I bled again for the 3rd time so New Years Eve we made an early visit to the doctor's office just to be sure baby was ok. Baby was ok, but the nurse proceeded to give me the results of our 12 week down syndrome scan. I don't know why she did this as the doc wasn't in the office from it being a holiday, but she did. Then, the real tears started, she told us and I quote, "you failed your down syndrome screen and will need to see a specialist to decide how you want to proceed." And even though we asked, she had no more details.

Happy New Years Eve to us right!

So we wait, again because of the holidays and thank God my doc calls and gives us a little more info. My Papp A was extremely low, the lowest he has seen, but all other parts of my screen were fine. Papp A, what the heck is that?? I consulted with Dr. Google and got a lot more info and that along with the info from my doc scared me, but kept me hopeful at the same time. Papp A being low was a sign the placenta could have problems in the pregnancy and was more common in IVF babies. Off to the specialist. More info, great info and a Harmony blood test which showed our baby would not have downs with a 99% accuracy. Praise God! However, that didn't show what would happen with my placenta. Would it stop working early and leave us with a still birth? Would it stop working late? Would it stop working at all? I was told I had over a 50% chance of developing pre eclampsia with this pregnancy and my extremely low Papp A levels, but when and to what severity was the question.

We were watched very closely throughout the pregnancy and got to see baby a lot! There were ups and downs along the way, scares, then things turned around. Things were going great and towards the end of the pregnancy so good I thought wow, I may actually make it to 40 weeks! Then, our last specialist appointment where at this point we were expecting great news and bam! Baby has IUGR, a growth restriction and a form of pre eclampsia and also something 6 weeks earlier they thought was happening, but then he had caught up and things were fine, well he had basically stopped growing 3 weeks prior. You need to deliver this week he told me. Ummm, great my Doctor is out of the country on vacation this week go figure. I was told it was ok to wait until Monday when he got back. Monday am off to my doctor to plan delivery. Blood pressure through the roof!!! Body was done. I had a no stress test and ultrasound to confirm baby was ok and he was small, but healthy so I wanted to go on bed rest for 2 days and wait to be delivered by my doctor since it was a high risk pregnancy.

Go home and start my bed rest after being at the doctor for hours and about 5 minutes after my husband gets out of the shower I am telling him how I am bored and BAM! My water breaks all on its own. Guess my body really was done. Off to the hospital! Check in and get things started. They started me at a very low level of pitocin, 4, to get things going and nothing. Hours later, still barely dilated to a 1...say WHAT? After my water broke with my daughter I went from 0-3 in like 5 minutes and 6 hours later she was born. The nurses come back about 8 hours later, still a 1! Oh no I thought. So now we are getting into the wee hours of the night and the nurses convince me that I should wait for my epidural since I am not moving along very quickly. Ok I thought, I will try. 12 hours into labor around 3 am I must get an epidural because the contractions in my back are so strong and I am so tired and none of the other pain medicine is helping. When I got the epidural after 12 hours of labor I was still at 2 cms and my contractions were very strong and pretty darn close the entire time. Finally a couple hours of rest. I woke up 2 hours later thinking oh my goodness the contractions weren't painful anymore, but during everyone I could feel the head wanting to pop out. Allan, Dad, someone! I think it is time. No one is waking up. I hit the nurse button on the bed which apparently wasn't the right nurse button, because no one answered. ALLAN!!! Finally I was able to wake up my husband and my dad who were up all night with me and they called in the nurse. Oh yeah, it was time. They QUICKLY set up and the Doctor came in and said "Give me a push, woah, wait, ok Give me half a push, Ok now Push" and BAM, our little boy arrives. Miles Joseph came into this world on 6/18 at 6:47 am weighing in at a whopping 5 lbs 8 oz which is bigger than what they thought, and 19.5 inches long. He was PERFECTION!!! When they say every pregnancy is different, they aren't joking. Here is our little baby boy as a dream, a hope, a beautiful embryo!!

Just joined the bloggy moms July Blog hop, have you?

a mom blog community!

If I were to win the lottery.... : 52 weeks of blogging with a purpose

Today I am linking up with one of my very favorite mommy bloggers, Becky @ http://www.frommrstomama.com/ and blogging about what I would do if I won the lottery.

Pay off all of our debt- House, student loans, cars, etc.

Put money in the bank for retirement & my kids

Go on the most amazing family vacation EVER!!! I am sure this would be the first of MANY with the new vacation fund I would stash away.

Pay off both my parents houses just to say thank you and I love you!

Buy a bigger house not a mansion by any means, but definitely our dream home.

Yes, I would do some major shopping,  but not private jet major, maybe some descent size diamond studs and a Louis bag though.

Pay if forward- I love the idea of paying it forward. Have my kids donate toys to children's hospitals, support causes close to my heart like heart disease, etc.

These are just a few of the things I would start with if I won the lottery. Probably delete my FB account too, because all of your friends come out of the woods when you have millions of dollars I hear.

Back to Basics & a quick Introduction

So, after many, many months of not blogging I am going to get back to it and this time be more serious about it. When I first started to blog I didn't have a clear direction and I didn't commit to it, but I have always loved to write and I decided this time I am going to give it a solid effort. I love to read other mommy blogs and I want to start documenting our family time. From pictures of
trips to the park or more serious family moments, why not put it out there and enjoy writing about it. That being said, my blog needs some major work and it will take me some time to figure out how to get it up to the quality I would like, but I am going to start with the basics.

- Getting a template that looks presentable up and running
- Posting consistently
- And then, learning about all of the enhancements, sharing & joining groups to promote my blog

I hope if I have questions along the way I can reach out to some of my other favorite mommy bloggers for some help!

Now a brief introduction. My name is Glori, I am a wife to my amazing husband Allan and we have 2 children under 2! Yes, I am writing this on about 4-5 hours of sleep, LOL! We have a beautiful daughter, Gianna, currently 20 months old and a brand new baby boy Miles who is almost a month old. Life is good! We feel extremely blessed to have 2 beautiful, healthy babies and it wasn't easy (more to come on that). I am a full time finance professional and am currently enjoying my 3 month maternity leave stent. We live in the suburbs of Atlanta and enjoy being active, food, movies, and of course family time! I hope you will start following my blog and share yours with me as well.
